Briquettes. Working towards being Carbon Friendly

October 20th, 2010

Waste policy-Very Little
Sawdust.
Briquette Machine.
The briquette machine uses all of our saw dust and wood shaving waste and converts it into a sustainable and renewable source of energy; it is clean, green and 90% carbon neutral.
All of our timbers from which the briquettes are a by-product of, are from FSC certified forests.
Sawdust briquettes are produced using high pressure hydraulics. As the saw dust is compressed the resin within the sawdust leaches out, thus gluing the briquettes together. This process means that there are no additives or chemicals used in the manufacture of this product.
Sawdust briquettes (100% timber) are clean and easy to handle, with a high calorific value and a residual ash content of less than 0.5%, which can be utilized as valuable garden fertilizer. With a long burning, high heat output, they are suitable for use in solid fuel heaters, wood burning stoves, chimeneas and BBQ’s. The Briquettes burn so efficiently that produce very little or no smoke, so are also usable in smoke free zones.

Heating the workshop.
The workshop is now heated by burning the briquettes that we produce from our waste.
We have recently purchased a large industrial wood burner which circulates hot air around the workshop using large fans. We produce enough sawdust to produce enough briquettes to heat the workshop throughout the winter months. This is a good step towards helping the enviromental impact of our company.

Waste.
We throw very little away because we have facilities on site to convert our waste into a sustainable fuel. The normal domestic size wheelie bin is 250 Litres, so to put it into perspective, if our bin is full we only throw away three times more than a domestic house hold does every 2 weeks. Our bins are very rarely full.

660 litres mixed recycling- emptied every two weeks
1100 litre general waste – emptied every two weeks
